When building concrete steps, there are several factors to consider. Always check with local building codes to be sure your concrete steps will be in compliance.
Dimensional factors for concrete steps include: (1) the individual riser height, also called the rise, of each step; (2) the individual width, also called the run or treads, of each step; (3) the width of the entire stairwell; and (4) the overall number of steps. Other considerations include whether or not the steps will also require a concrete footing.
